Euthymia interview: "Music should be experienced by unleashing itself on a stage..."

• Hey guys, welcome to Metal Prison. Let’s start with a biography of the band. Feel free to present yourselves!

Vito: The band was founded in 2022, after 1 full year of concerts and after having played important stages such as Rock Castle in the Czech Republic, Meeting Del Mare in Italy in addition to various clubs between Germany and Italy.

Euthymia find its origin in another band: Men in the Box, where some of our members have been playing. The band has been active from 2014 to 2017 and was rebooted with new members in 2022.
But given the changes that were made, with new members and a new sound, it made sense to us to create a new entity instead of pursuing under the name men in the box.

    • How did you come up with the band name?

Our name Euthymia (from the Greek word euthymia composed of eu- = good and thymos = soul) derives from the Greek concept of state of mind of serenity or neutrality which does not consist in a detachment or in a denial of passions, but in a sort of quiet satisfaction, of inner contentment.

    • If I’m not wrong, until now you have released two eps. Why not concentrating to a first full length. Do these releases count for you as demos would be two decades ago?

Our first two Ep rather than a Demo, are means to make our listeners empathize more: In fact, the first contains two songs in embryonic form that will make up our first album due out by the end of the year. The second, however, features two Men In the box songs with a different sound: a way to greet our old fans.

    • Most of your titles seem to be Greek words. Am I right? Is someone of you Greek or what?

It's true: the names of our EPs come from the Greek culture, which is very dear to us. No one is Greek, but coming from southern Italy, we have clear Mediterranean origins, which has blended us into Greek culture in a natural way.

    • I checked your video for song “Eunoya”. I guess it’s not by chance a live performance. Do you think that music must be played live as well?

Nowadays, music is too locked away in small home recording studios and too informally displayed on YouTube. Music should be experienced by unleashing itself on a stage: it's the only way to create an important connection with people on a human level. Playing live is necessary.

    • Speaking of live gigs, you have played in Rock Castle Festival (CZ). How was the experience?

Czech Republic was great! People are very affectionate and curious about music! Great people and great culture!

    • I like a lot the way you perform, and I really like your music as well. It seems to be quite esoteric. What are your main influences?

Our music is a blend between grunge and alternative on one side, and a more prog/metal sound on the other. specifically, our sound comes from bands like Tool, Nirvana, and Porcupine Tree.

    • Your song titles are quite unusual. What do you like to talk about in terms of lyrics?

Our lyrics derive from intrinsic research of the human psyche and self-awareness.
Each song is consequently a sort of inner monologue with still unknown parts of ourselves.

    • What is the future of the band?

We are planning a small tour in France this summer, as well as some festivals. We are also recording our first Album that we want to release during this 2023. A lot of nice things will come!

    • Thanks a lot for this interview. Last words are yours.

Thanks again to all of you from Metal Prison!
