One thing that is instantly clear is that Nyxborn has been quite busy the past five years. In such a short time, he managed to produce 4 different records with no compromises to the quality or the artistic vision. One might think that some compromises had to be made but I assure you and you will personally realize once you listen to his newest record that Nyxborn has been working hard to turn his artistic vision into music.
Nyxborn’s trademark sound is a blend of blackened heavy metal riffs with high-pitched vocals that compose a dark atmosphere. The kind of darkness that reminds of bands like the Night Demon and Midnight. Aggressive and fast, the “ΔΑΙΜΟΝΟΛΟΓΙΟ” mixes the speed and sharpness of heavy metal with the darkness and aggressiveness of black, into a combination that certainly won’t disappoint.
I would like to mention two things in the record that really drew my attention and got me to invest time into the album.
The first one is Nyxborn’s love for the science-fiction novel by Frank Herbert, the “Dune”. The song “Exiled in Arrakis” is dedicated to the Dune-saga and since I was recently drawn into this world through the movie, it was quite interesting to see Nyxborn’s take on Herbert’s lore.
The second is the cover of the song “Nύχτωσε χωρίς φεγγάρι”, which is a really brave decision. The original is an old famous rebetiko track and as a rebetiko has a very particular and distinct style and feeling.
The task for Nyxborn was to take the whole rebetiko style and interpret it into a heavy metal track, without sacrificing any of the signature elements of the original. Fortunately, not only he delivered but also managed to present a result that complements and makes it a great heavy metal track.
This is the Nyxborn’s musical approach. A different take on heavy metal, fast and epic, Nyxborn has done a great job with this record. The “ΔΑΙΜΟΝΟΛΟΓΙΟ” is a fun listening experience and I highly recommend it.
