Katre: ”Behind The Resilience” (30 September 2021, self-release)

In their second album, Katre, chose to work on the migration concept. The Berlin-based band composed 8 tracks of instrumental heavy post-rock. What makes Katre really different is the way they approach the concept. They don’t use lyrics and try to explain the emotions through sound. For this reason they collaborated with the well-known producer Chris Edrich. The latter’s previous experience with Gojira, Tesseract, The Ocean, Klone, and Leprous is very significant for the whole sound of the album.

But it’s not just a matter of production as Katre have added many elements to post-rock, which at times flirts with metalcore and post-metal or alternative-metal. Other times it shows melodic influence from the Middle-East and Turkey, where the band’s origins are from. And also there is a progressive King Crimson and Genesis air on many of the songs, apart from their obvious Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Mono influences. When it comes to metal, maybe Anathema is a band that describes closely the metal attitude Katre have towards music.

Guitars have the leading role in Katre, as in almost every rock orchestra, but the synth also have a significant role in the atmosphere. The drums are very colorful with nice and clever tricks and the bass is the basic supporter of the melodies.

The album’s first single is “So Was the Life”. It is a very emotional track, like pretty much the whole album. The heavy breaks work very nice in the songwriting and create waves and waves of emotions. 

If you read the titles of the songs from the album, you will make out the concept very easily: So Was The Life, The Decision, The Route, The Mermaid, Now On The Continent, The Run, Looking For The Pearls, Behind The Resilience. The story begins from the homeland, where a family leaves a regular life, but due to reasons beyond their will, they are forced to migrate. So there is the “decision” they have to make and take a route. The Mermaid reveals the sea journey, like the cover of the album, a very tough journey until the arrival on the continent. Then there is a life on the run for the immigrants, looking to set things up for them, often feeling and being unwanted, but getting stronger in the end! 

Conclusively, “Behind the Resilience” has a very strong concept. Both the concept and the music have been really very well worked upon by Katre. The production works amazingly with the material. Katre have a lot of fantasy in their creation. They have a great and unique style. We believe it is high time for them to start gaining some further recognition for their hard work and excellent crafted in every detail albums! “Behind the Resilience” can do this for Katre.
