Interview with Elkapath: "Before we recorded the album, we left the labels out of it and that helped a lot to open up our minds and creativity..."

1) Hello guys! How are you doing?

Hello there!!
We are all good, thank you. Way too excited with the album we are about to release!

2) We really liked your new song “Black Spiders”. We can call this “real music”. How do you feel on this?

It definitely put a big smile on our faces and we are glad that you did like it! But hold your breath as more things are coming up really soon!

3) Tell us a few words about the band and the musicians that you have in the band!

We are:
Carla Elkapath: vocals, keys
AJ Marios: guitars
Trevor England: bass
Chris Horwood-Jones: drums

Elkapath started in 2004 as a solo project by Carla writing and releasing her own material online.  Over the years this has progressed and in 2018 Carla started working with other musicians to produce a full live band formation of Elkapath. Over the last couple of years, the addition of the new musicians has developed the sound of Elkapath to the synthetic goth metal sound that we now have.

4) Being from UK, makes you have a big tradition in music. What is your opinion about music in your country?

The history of the UK in heavy music is undoubtedly massive, everything started with 4 boys from Birmingham and their vibe is still here!
Now-a-days it is still a very good scene with a lot of strong bands and a lot of events and festivals!
We are definitely lucky to be here!

5) How is your mood about Covid-19? Did this influence the band?

No-one could have predicted how Covid-19 would have impacted the band, and indeed the music industry on a global scale. It influenced the whole of humanity!
For us it created a very good opportunity to make this album and to work and gel as a band.  It had its negative impacts that we couldn’t get together and play as a group and we were not able to perform any live shows for a period of time, but we try to keep to the positive side!  And we believe that shows in our album.

6) Do you consider that being so unique as a band is an advantage or a disadvantage for you?

An absolute advantage! We love the fact that we are not your typical heavy metal band, we believe that this is reflected in our music. Before we recorded the album, we left the labels out of it and that helped a lot to open up our minds and creativity, being able to play the music that we wanted to.
You can find elements from a lot of different heavy genres in our songs and that have led to an album that we are very proud and personally love!

7) Who writes the lyrics and what they are about?

Carla is behind the lyrics and also produces the first version of the song that she is writing.
The lyrics are about a lot of different things, from human relationships to technology, to love and all the way to phobias and fears. Carla takes a lot of inspiration from things around her – either real life experiences or other general observations.

8) Are there any other musical projects for the members of Elkapath?

Not really, we all love playing music but we are dedicated to Elkapath.

9) What was your best live performance ever and how did you feel?

Unfortunately, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the current line up hasn’t played any gigs yet.  However, by the end of October 2021 we will start a set of gigs around the UK and we hope to catch up on the time that we missed due to the pandemic and local lockdowns.

10) What are your plans about Elkapath? Do you feel this about a project or a full band that will last for years?

Elkapath has already existed for 17 years, just in a slightly different format. Now that we are a full band, we hope to continue building on the bands fanbase and developing our sound into something truly unique that will make us recognizable just by hearing our music.  We certainly hope that we are here for a long time to come.  We want to gig as much as possible. We will be touring around the UK at the end of 2021 and we already have a number of shows lined up for 2022.  Who knows what the future holds for us after that…? Europe, America……? The world?!?! We can only hope and continue to work hard a what we do!

11) Keep up the nice work, guys! Metal on!

Thank you very much for your time and stay heavy!!
