In reality their latest effort leaves the listener speechless to admire the vocal virtues of Barbara, the leader of this act. Powerful but also sensitive vocals that serve to demonstrate why she’s such a dominant presence for Barbara Black.
The album begins with “Damnified”, which is a song that is already going strong from the first moment. It is a perfect song with a catchy and melodic chorus. Very heavy but also modern song that is not far from today’s metal with aggressive vocals.
We continue with “Tiger Tamer” and “No Bullets”, two more songs that are close to metal and showcase the ability of the band to compose catchy songs but also not betraying their quality. Really diverse songs with varied rhythms and complicated vocal lines.
From the next song, the fragile “Desert’s Last Drop”, Barbara Black starts to surprise about changing styles. You can even listen to gospel and country elements, but these entire details suit very much to the band’s style that seems to be fully oriented after only 3 releases. This is a big compliment about the band and the reason to exist in the scene.
Extra kudos about the massive and clear production and the musicianship of the band. These guys play like well-seasoned musicians that have been playing and performing for a long time “Love, Death & Flies” gave the band the opportunity to show off their well-rounded, multi-faceted hard rock-heavy metal sound. Barbara Black released their best work since now, with ten easy-to-listen songs that their fans will like but that can also suggest the band to other audiences. A highly recommended album.
