TRAILER PARK GIRL: "The Mixtape" EP (17 January 2022, self-release)

Trailer Park Girl are a newly formed band that recently released its debut EP, entitled “The Mixtape”.
With the “The Mixtape” you get what you see, minimalism in both the audio and the visual aspect. There aren’t any fancy experiments or boundary breaking combinations and yet you absolutely enjoy listening to this EP.

Trailer Park Girl have released as their debut a comfort record. You know what to expect and still you are happy when it comes. It is an easy listen, catchy, that will play for 16 minutes and then without realizing you will carry the melodies with you.

The EP consists of just 3 songs, two of the same wave-length and one ballad. Those of the same wave-length, the “Call me Harvey” and “People used to talk about the weather” are exploring the garage rock territory while they reminded me musically of the Queens of the Stone Age and, strangely enough, of Billie Idol at some points. Particularly, while listening at the “Call me Harvey” I caught myself thinking that it sounds a bit like the song “White Wedding”.

Between the two, there is the ballad of the “The Mixtape”, the “Acid Ballerina”. Pretty simple in music terms, with a groovy, bluesy bass line that works as foundation, a melody that compliments the beautiful and expressive vocal performance and a guitar solo brought straight from the 70s, the song drops down the bpm and shows the emotional side of Trailer Park Girl.

Honestly, I don’t have much more to say about the EP. It is straightforward, to the point and achieves its goal which is to be fun, accessible and catchy. There is nothing not to enjoy with the “The Mixtape”, so I suggest that you give it a listen since we are expecting their full-length work soon.

1. Call me Harvey
2. Acid Ballerina
3. People used to talk about the weather
